The Middle Ages may seem a long time before the late 20th century, but it is from the society and the economy of that distant period that modern conditions have grown. How better to get at the nature of life then than by examining the progress of a prominent family of the region - unfortunately in many ways, it is only about this class of person that sufficient material survives. In this innovatory study Dr. Whetter explores the history of the Bodrugan family of south Cornwall between 1220 and 1487, the material basis of their power, their family connections, friends and affinity, their religious involvement, the way they served in local government and outside Cornwall, their participation in rebellions and how their story concluded in the late 15th century with the rumbustious  career of Henry Bodrugan. The work is published only a few years after the 500th anniversary of Henry's dramatic escape from his enemies...
